A Nigerian man is facing trial for allegedly raping his own mother.

Akintunde Omotehinde,27, is accused of assaulting the 60-year-old at their home in Ajebamidele area of Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital on 23 August.

According to online newspaper PUNCH, the woman, a petty trader was left badly injured after the attack.

Omotehinde allegedly also assaulted and inflicted injuries Mr Isiaka Ojo, who attempted to separate him from his mother during the act.

"The news was shocking. Not many of us believed the story at first but the truth cannot be hidden for too long," a local resident said.

"She was badly injured and was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

"I can tell you that the family is presently living in shame. We hear that the family members are planning to move out of the house but we cannot confirm that."

Although reports suggest that Omotehinde struggled with alcohol addiction, one neighbour claimed that his actions were premeditated.

"I am sure that what he did was not as a result of drunkenness. It must have been premeditated," the anonymous source said.

Omotehinde was remanded in prison custody pending investigation .He is scheduled to appear in court on 16 October.
