This week the claims of a high-level cover-up of child sex abuse by senior politicians and others in the 1980s engulfed Westminster.
The home secretary announced two new inquiries into the issue and the top official in her department was asked to explain the whereabouts of some missing files.
But even before it all got underway there were calls for the inquiry head to stand down.
