A new trailer for the science-fiction action film Battleship has been released.

Hasbro, the toy company behind the incredibly dumb but incredibly popular Transformers films, has managed to fashion a film loosely linked to the classic Battleship board game.

The film sees Taylor Kitsch, star of the recently released John Carter, lead a cast including Liam Neeson and ubiquitous singer Rihanna - in her first film role - against an alien threat that threatens global extinction.

The trailer provides few surprises for a film based on a board game, seemingly light on plot and heavy on explosive visuals. Battleship is released in the UK on April 11.
