Overview

Chris Gayle has started this edition of the IPL with a bang as the hard-hitting batsman's brilliant knock of 96 helped Royal Challengers Bangalore seal their first win against Kolkata Knight Riders in their last encounter.

The defending champions posted a total of 177 runs and in reply, RCB won by three wickets with six balls to spare. Virat Kohli and his men will be playing their first match at home and the Challengers will be looking for their second win on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Sunrisers suffered a defeat at the hands of dominant Chennai Super Kings in their first match. New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum's unbeaten century off just 56 deliveries, followed by a quick 57 from MS Dhoni helped their side post a total of 209 runs.

David Warner's side could manage only 164 runs in 20 overs, while losing six wickets in the process. Sunrisers Hyderabad will be hoping they can improve on their bowling when they take on the Challengers in their second clash of this year's IPL.
