A professional footballer has gone on trial for allegedly being involved in a violent assault.

Sheffield United teenager Callum McFadzean appeared in the dock at Sheffield Magistrates Court over an alleged incident in Carver Street in the centre of the city on October 6.

McFadzean, 19, was accused of assault and threatening behaviour. He was released on bail prior to returning to court in November.

McFadzean, a midfielder, is currently breaking in to the first team of the League One club and has made seven appearances this season, scoring one goal.

He is a product of the Blades' youth academy.
