Solid Snake, the iconic infiltrator from the Metal Gear Solid series, is joining Rainbow Six Siege as a permanent Operator when Operation Silent Hunt launches on 3 March. Players will be able to control the stealth specialist, armed with new gadgets, adaptable abilities, and a versatile weapons loadout.

The combination of his Soliton Radar MKIII and On-Site Procurement ability could make him one of the most dangerous Operators in the current Siege roster, forcing defenders to rethink strategies and approach each round with caution.

The Soliton Radar MKIII Offers Unprecedented Intel

Solid Snake's primary gadget, the Soliton Radar MKIII, provides a detailed floorplan of the immediate area while detecting enemy Operators, as reported by Ubisoft.

The device uses a colour-coded system to indicate threat levels, with green showing areas are clear, yellow marking active CCTV cameras, and red signalling enemy presence. Activating precision mode allows Snake to view the position icons and vision cones of detected enemies, giving real-time tactical intelligence.

The radar, however, only scans the floor Snake is on and connected staircases, and can be disrupted by gadgets such as Mute's jammers or Vigil's Electronic Rendering Cloak. Soft walls and floors provide additional tactical opportunities for talented players.

On-Site Procurement Boosts Battlefield Adaptability

In line with Solid Snake's reputation for battlefield versatility, the On-Site Procurement ability allows him to carry up to five secondary gadgets simultaneously. These include frag grenades, stun grenades, smoke grenades, impact EMPs, and breach charges.

Unlike other Operators, Snake starts with only one item per category, requiring him to scavenge utility pouches dropped by eliminated Operators to replenish his arsenal.

This ability allows him to adapt dynamically to changing battlefield conditions, from disabling laser grids with EMPs to rearming grenades for further engagements.

Weapons Loadout Complements Stealth Tactics

Solid Snake brings two primary weapons to Rainbow Six Siege: the PMR90A2 designated marksman rifle and the F2 assault rifle, which now supports grip attachments including horizontal, angled, and vertical grips. His secondary weapon, the TACIT .45 pistol, features an integrated suppressor and reflex sight, enabling silent engagements.

The combination of long-range precision, high-powered assault, and stealthy sidearm ensures Snake can operate effectively in multiple combat scenarios, whether infiltrating solo or coordinating with a team.

Defender Counters and Tactical Considerations

Defenders are alerted when detected by Snake's radar, allowing repositioning or counterattacks. Specific Operator abilities can disrupt his detection capabilities.

Alibi's Prisma holograms can deceive the radar, Vigil's cloak hides from scanning, and Mute's jammers block radar signals.

Snake's radar cannot detect custom cameras, so defenders using devices from Valkyrie, Maestro, Echo, Mozzie, or Skopós can remain hidden, emphasising the need for strategic play against this new threat.

Metal Gear Solid Collaboration and Event Content

The Operation Silent Hunt Battle Pass instantly unlocks Solid Snake and includes Metal Gear Solid-themed cosmetics, including a Psycho Mantis outfit for Smoke. A limited-time event later in the season introduces a 4v4 infiltration gameplay mode with Snake teaming up with Zero, also known as Sam Fisher.

Additional Operator skins inspired by the Metal Gear Solid series include Jackal as Gray Fox and Ash as Meryl. This collaboration extends the crossover beyond a single Operator, adding new visual and gameplay content to Siege.

Operation Silent Hunt Updates and Balancing Changes

Operation Silent Hunt will also feature map modernisations for Villa, Coastline, and Oregon. This season marks the final iteration of the 6v6 Dual Front mode, giving players a chance to unlock exclusive cosmetics.

Operator balance updates include faster shell transitions for Skopós, longer concuss effects for Ela's Grzmot mines, additional Garra Hook charges for Amaru, improved decoy pings for Alibi, faster Observation Blocker deployment, and new weapon options for Flores. Shield users will no longer be able to bash through full-health barricades except for Blackbeard's ability.
