Reigning T20 World Cup champions West Indies require 161 to reach Sunday's final after Lahiru Thirimanne's 44 from 35 balls salvage kept Sri Lanka in contention in Mirpur.

Kusal Perera, Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara's dismissals left Sri Lanka teetering on 49 for 3 but Tillakaratner Dilshan (39) and Thirimanne (44) forced West Indies onto the back foot.

Angelo Mathews produced the ideal cameo with 40 from 23 balls including sixes in the final two overs which saw Sri Lanka finish on 160 for 6, setting a testing total for the holders to reach.

Sri Lanka bowled New Zealand out for just 60 to reach the last four on Monday and will be confident of restricting the Chris Gayle-led West Indies in order to set up a final against either India or South Africa.
