A woman in New York state who said she went out hiking to relax after feeling "heartbroken" about the US election was probably not expecting to meet the woman she voted for out on the same route.

Margot Gerster said she decided to "take my girl hiking" in "one of [our] favourite places in Chappaqua". But the family weren't alone in the woods.

"I heard a bit of rustling coming towards me and as I stepped into the clearing there she was, Hillary Clinton and Bill with their dogs doing exactly the same thing as I was." The Clintons have a home in Chappaqua, around 30 miles north of New York City.

Gerster says that she got to tell Clinton that one of her "most proudest moments as a mother" was taking her daughter with her when she voted for the Democratic nominee. "She hugged me and thanked me and we exchanged some sweet pleasantries and then I let them continue their walk."

On the same day, President-elect Donald Trump went to the White House to meet with President Obama.

According to ABC News, Clinton has previously said she enjoys unwinding by taking hikes with Bill and Maisie and Tally, their two dogs. "I'm not one for signs but I think ill definitely take this one. So proud." said Gerster.
