Update Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 to Jelly Bean via Unofficial CyanogenMod 10 [How to Install]

Just a few days earlier, Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 received the official CyanogenMod 10 (CM10) based Jelly Bean update, which is now followed by the unofficial version. With so many Jelly Bean custom ROMs available for Android handsets, users are spoilt for choice in recent times. Nevertheless, the unofficial versions offer better customisation options than their official counterparts, thereby paving the way for an interesting choice.

Thanks to XDA forum member, mnm1992, Galaxy Note N7000 gets the unofficial CM10 release for Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) platform with custom features and daily updates from the developer himself. Despite the superior customisation flexibility offered by the unofficial version, it may still harbour a few known bugs and broken features, as it is still undergoing development.

Here is the list of known bugs and broken features cited by the developer:

• Certain features like 3G video calling is not supported, as they are only compatible with the stock Android ROMs at the moment. However, video calls are fully functional through use of third-party apps like Skype.
• FM radio is not supported
• Certain camera features may not be fully functional, unlike the stock ROMs

Prerequisites

• The ROM and the instructions provided in this guide are applicable to the Galaxy Note N7000 model only and will not work with any other device. You may verify your device's model number by navigating to Settings > About Phone.
• It is necessary to flash CM9 ROM before installing the unofficial CM10 ROM based Jelly Bean update for your device.

How to Install Unofficial CM10 Based Jelly Bean Update on Samsung Galaxy Note N7000

1. Download the latest version of the ROM from XDA Developers official thread (Download here).

2. Download the Google Apps package here.

3. Without extracting, copy the two zip files downloaded in step 1 and 2 to the phone's internal SD card

4. Power off the phone and Boot into ClockworkMod recovery through a button sequence. Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together until the screen turns on, and then release them. The phone will boot into ClockworkMod recovery in a matter of seconds.In Recovery, use the Volume buttons to navigate up/down and the power button to select menu options.

5. Tap wipe data/factory reset, then choose Yes on next screen to confirm. Wait until data wipe process completes.

6. Choose install zip from sdcard, then hit choose zip from sdcard. Locate the ROM file on the SD card and select it. Choose Yes to confirm installation on next screen.

7. Once ROM is installed, tap choose zip from sdcard again, then choose the gapps-jb-20120726-signed.zip file to install the Google apps package.

8. After the Google apps package is installed, tap go back then hit reboot system now to reboot the phone into the ROM. Please be patient, as the first boot will take about 5 to 7 minutes.

CM10, based on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is now installed and running on your Samsung Galaxy Note.

Updating to Newer ROM Upgrades

If you want to update to a newer ROM version, just download the file from XDA Developers' official thread, copy the ROM file to your SD card, boot into recovery, install the ROM without wiping data and then reboot the phone. You don't have to reinstall Google apps while updating ROM packages.
