Nine-year-old Kolt Kyler had been working diligently on the family farm for the last couple of years, and his dad knew just how to repay him for his hard work: tickets to see his favourite baseball team.

His older half-sister, Hannah Himes, captured the moment Kolt burst into tears when he found out he was going to see the Chicago Cubs.

In the video, Kolt's dad Andy says his son never complained about the hard work.

A die-hard fan of the North Side Nine, his family knew the tickets would go down well.

"Kolt has been helping his dad on their farm for a couple years with their cows, but recently Kolt got two pigs to show for 4H [a youth development and mentoring organization] for the first time so he's had to work extra hard!," Himes told ABC News.

"He also made the travel baseball team again this year so he's been busy with regular season, travel team, farm chores, cub scouts, and he is also an honor roll student!"

"For Christmas he got a Cubs t-shirt and cried, so I assumed being surprised with Cubs tickets we would get an even better reaction," Himes said.

Cubs players have since taken notice of the boy's passion. First baseman Anthony Rizzo offered him batting practice passes and Jon Lester has offered Kolt his dad's personal seats.
