The third Grand Slam of the 2016 season and the oldest competition in tennis is here as the players take to the grass surfaces of SW19. Defending champion Novak Djokovic comes into the tournament as the favourite. Such has been his form over the past two years that the Serb will be a very tough player to beat.

Crowd favourite Roger Federer is back at his preferred venue. The Swiss maestro is currently tied with Pete Sampras and William Renshaw who have won seven Wimbledon titles. A win here will make him the first person in history to win eight titles.

On the women's singles front, Serena Williams returns as the top seed and defending champion. The current World No 1 is the favourite in the absence of Maria Sharapova who has been banned from playing tennis due to her being found guilty of taking the banned substance Meldonium.

IBTimes UK takes a look at the top five seeds in the men's and women's singles competition and their first round matches.
