Woman Arrested Over Murder of Graduate Catherine Wells-Burr

A 32-year-old woman has been arrested over the murder of university graduate Catherine Wells-Burr, whose body was found in a burning car in Somerset.

The body of Wells-Burr, 23, was discovered inside her red Ford Focus in a field in Ashill, near Ilminster. The car had been set alight in what police described as a "tragic and brutal incident".

It is not known if the Bath Spa University graduate was alive when the car was set on fire.

Two men previously arrested during the investigation have now been eliminated from enquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Crisp said: "A post mortem will begin today to try and identify how Catherine died.

"We still need information from members of the public and those people who knew Catherine, or knew of her. It is imperative we get a full picture of her life and you may have information that could help.

"There are many lines of enquiry that we are examining; one of those is that this may not have been a random attack and that Catherine knew her killers or killer.

Tributes were paid to the 23-year-old, who worked as a business analyst in the town of Chard, following her death.

Maurice Hicks, the head teacher of Holyrood Academy in Chard where Miss Wells-Burr was a former pupil, said: "Everyone at Holyrood is deeply saddened and shocked to hear the news about Catherine.

"She is warmly remembered as a very friendly young person, gregarious and with a great sense of humour. Our sincere condolences go to her family and friends at this difficult time."
