Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a 16-year-old boy was stabbed and killed in Woodford, north east London. The boy was taken to Whipps Cross Hospital but was pronounced dead at 10.45pm on 9 January.

Officers believe they know the boy's identity and have informed the next of kin. Ambulances arrived at Ashton Playing Fields off Chigwell Road after being alerted to a stabbing but were unable to save the boy.

It is believed he was attending a 16th birthday party for a female friend at a social club at the playing fields. He was confronted by four male youths, one of whom stabbed him. No arrests have yet been made.

DCI Hughes said: "There were around 100 young people at this party and we are appealing for anyone with information or any witnesses to come forward as soon as possible. The victim's family are naturally devastated and in shock by what has happened and we need the help of those at the party that night to progress our investigation."
