The 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games logo was unveiled on Thursday (April 4) at a ceremony exactly five years to the day from the start of the games.

The logo features a swimmer, a hurdler and a gymnast amongst the Gold Coast skyline and the ocean as well as the green of the hinterland.

Merchandise has already been printed with the logo and profits from the sales of these items will go towards sending Australian athletes to the next Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014.

World and Olympic 100 metre hurdles champion Sally Pearson was at the unveiling.

"I think it's fantastic, it's really nice to see the colour, it's really nice to see obviously the athletes involved in the emblem as well," she said.

Organisers were confident that facilities for the games will be ready.

"Everything is ahead of where we expected it to be, all on time," said Nigel Chamier, Executive Chairman Commonwealth Games Corporation.

The mascot for the games will be unveiled in a few years, said local media.
