Overview

Murray's bid to reclaim the number one spot continued as he defeated Gilles Simon in the previous round of the tournament. This also helped him make his way into the last eight of the Vienna Open.

Simon won the first set and the 29-year-old had to make a comeback to make sure he kept his hopes of winning the tournament alive. Murray won the match after winning the second and the third set as the final scoreline was 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

It was Murray's 12th win in a row, having already won the China Open and Shanghai Masters in October. He has a chance to reclaim the number one spot, if he continues his form and wins the Paris Masters next week.

Should Murray win, he can reclaim the top place, if the current holder Novak Djokovic fails to seal at least a semi-final finish in the French capital.

Murray will be hoping for another win over the American tennis star on Friday as he looks to progress further to seal a berth in the semi-final. Isner has never defeated his quarter-final opponent in the six matches they have played so far.

Isner, on the other hand, defeated Feliciano López in what was a close encounter between the two. The 31-year-old won the opening set on the tie breaker, before losing the second one. The final set was decided on a tie breaker, which was won by Isner.
