Antoine Griezmann was the subject of interest from Premier League teams and Paris Saint-Germain before he signed a new deal with Atletico Madrid, according to his agent. The 25-year-old Frenchman extended his previous contract by an additional year in June despite other clubs trying to lure him away from the Spanish capital.

Eric Olhats, Griezmann's agent, has confirmed there was contact with several English clubs and the Parisians prior to extending his deal. However, he insisted the sought-after attacker had no reason to leave his current club.

"Antoine extended his contract with pleasure," Olhats said of the rumoured Manchester United target, according to France Football. "At no point was this club a back-up plan."

Olhats said that although he spoke to several English clubs about his client, many of them appeared to be going through a transitional phase. He also admitted to talking to Paris Saint-Germain about a potential move.

"Teams from abroad did however call on him during the close season. In England, there were several direct expressions of interest, but a lot of clubs are under reconstruction," he said of Griezmann, who was linked with United earlier this year.

"There were also meetings with Paris Saint-Germain. The project was very attractive, but he's just become a father, he feels good in Spain and Atletico is, I repeat, a great club that gives him everything he expects and which is managed by a great coach."
