Arsenal reportedly hope to sign Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy in the next 24 hours. The Gunners triggered Vardy's £20m ($29m) release clause on 3 June and the transfer has accelerated so fast the England international could become an Arsenal player by Sunday evening.

Vardy, 29, wants a four-year deal worth around £120,000-a-week, according to The Mirror, which claims Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is happy to ratify the deal for the pacey centre-forward. The Gunners are eager to conclude the transfer as soon as possible, amid reported interest from other Premier League clubs, including Liverpool.

Leicester are desperate to retain the Premier League-winning star, but they are powerless to stop him leaving the club after Arsenal met Vardy's release clause. And from the player's viewpoint, his shock switch to Arsenal would also see him double his annual salary.

Further discussions are expected this weekend but Arsenal are confident of sealing the transfer in the coming hours. Vardy scored 24 goals for the Foxes last season as Claudio Ranieri's men were crowned the Premier League champions.
