FULL TIME: Southampton 2-2 Tottenham

That result sees Spurs move into fifth place for now. Two two points separate them, Southampton (sixth) and Liverpool (seventh). Brendan Rodgers' side are in action against West Brom shortly.

Fonte close in the dying seconds! The skipper stoops to power a header on goal but it veers just over the bar. Difficult chance for the centre half, no shame on not hitting the back of the net there. The final whistle blows, and that will be that.

Long now is fouled down the right, earning Fazio a booking. The free kick comes in but is deflected wide for a corner. Last chance of the game coming up...

Elia takes it but Alderweireld can only divert it back into the hands of Lloris. Spurs try mount something for themselves but Soldado's ball in from the right is way off and Kane has zero chance of getting on the end of it.

Mane comes again down the right and forces a corner. Three minutes to go.

Nope, he clips it into the box looking for Kane but Southampton can clear. There are SEVEN minutes of injury time added on here.

Free kick from about 30 yards out for Tottenham. Time for an Eriksen special?

Mane is clipped 30 yards out from goal and takes the resulting free kick. Fonte flings himself towards it at the near post and powers his header across goal, but Fazio is in the way and gets rid.

Davies' afternoon is over as he leaves the pitch on a stretcher. Vlad Chiriches comes onto replace him with just over 10 minutes remaining.

Mane puts pressure on Ben Davies, chasing the full back into his own box but goes down in a heap after an awkward turn. Mane plays on, but his shot is deflected wide. Spurs have a bigger problem with their full back, however, he looks in some pain.

Tottenham peg them back in no time! It;s a simple, but well-taken goal as Dier threads a ball down the inside right channel. Chadli is on the end of it and has half a yard on Bertrand and from a tight angle, he slots home, finding the bottom far corner.

Goal! Southampton 2-2 Tottenham (Nacer Chadli, 70)

Southampton lead for the first time! Shane Long, not long off the bench, delivers an instant impact, racing down the right flank and whipping a perfect cross into the six yard box. Pelle's leap is perfect and he batters a fine header into the back of the net.

Goal! Southampton 2-1 Tottenham (Graziano Pelle)

Again, it goes horribly wrong for Davis! The build up play is terrific, with Mane cutting in from the left before finding Pelle with a delayed pass inside the box. The Italian's first touch is superb, flicking it back to Davis who turns past his marker well to open up the shot for him. He looks for the top corner, but he doesn't find it. He really doesn't find it, that's somewhere in the stands.

Great chance for Southampton as the ball breaks to Davis about 20 yards out from goal. His first touch is good, bringing the ball inside with an enormous amount of space in front of him. Vertonghen and Fazio are nowhere to be found. He has all the time in the world to line up a shot but screws a woeful effort wide of the post.

And Southampton get us started for the second half.

HALF TIME:

Southampton 1-1 Tottenham

Tottenham have cranked up the pressure in the last five minutes and have got their reward. Eric Dier lifts in a cross from the right which Kane glances on to Lamela. The Agentine gets enough on it to get it past Davis, off the inside of the post. Did it comes off his hand, though? Replays suggest it may have done. Lucky break for Spurs.

Goal! Southampton 1-1 Tottenham (Erik Lamela, 43)

Saints come again, albeit via a fortunate free kick. Vertonghen looked to have won the ball cleanly from Pelle with a fine sliding challenge but the decision goes against the Belgian. Ward-Prowse lifts an excellent cross in from the right that is an inch away from Pelle, who was coming in at the far post.

Oh, Tottenham. What a mess. Southampton break excellently through Mane, who cuts in from the right in between the two centre halves before Fazio gets across to intercept. So far, so good for the away side. But they fail to clear the danger, and that indecision leads to Ben Davies losing his footing in the box. Pelle pounces and prods past Lloris.

Goal! Southampton 1-0 Tottenham (Graziano Pelle, 28)

Saints have another corner from that, but nothing comes from it and Tottenham can break. Erik Lamela leads the charge, driving at the Southampton centre halves. Kane races up alongside to offer an option but the Argentine can't find him. Under pressure from Yoshida, he eventually tries to push the ball wide but a meek pass is easily intercepted.

Lloris denies Schneiderlin! It's one from the training ground from Southampton as a precise corner is lifted into the box. The Saints midfielder meets it and guides a beautifully controlled effort towards the bottom corner, only for Lloris to get down just in time to deny his compatriot.

Southampton are growing into this game a bit now. Alderweireld wins a corner for his side.

Saints switch it to the right, with Clyne lifting an excellent ball down the flank to find the run of Mane. His first touch just inside the box isn't great, but it still forces Vertonghen over to concede the corner.

Whenever Southampton do get forward, it's down the left. Davis finds the overlapping run of Bertrand this time and fires an inviting ball across the face of goal, but there is one there to tap home. Southampton keep the pressure but Schneiderlin is penalised for a sliding challenge. The Frenchman looked to have won the ball fairly.

Davies come down the left and works the ball inside to Eriksen, who provides a bit of magic to flick the ball into Chadli. He looks for the shot but it isn't on as Southampton shirts swamp the Belgian. Spurs eventually settle for a corner, but nothing comes of it.

Mason threads a ball into the path of Kane who works a yard of space for himself on the turn about 20 yards out from goal, only for Yoshida to read it well and intercept.

Half a chance for Saints as Mane whips a terrific ball across the face of goal from the left. Pelle has sprung clear of his man but can't extend himself far enough to make contact with the ball.

Eriksen works the ball wide to Dier who has crept up the inside flank, but his cross is lifted perfectly into the hands of Davis in goal. Terrific execution if he meant that. He probably didn't.

Hold on, ignore that earlier statement. You can pick a few rather anti-Poch chants around the stands. Tottenham's travelling support tries to drown it out and succeed, for now. On the pitch, Tottenham have the home side pinned back inside their own half, but they aren't really creating anything with Harry Kane committing a foul on Fonte in their latest failed attempt.

Clyne takes no chances with Harry Kane lurking on his shoulder and plays the ball out for a corner. It;s whipped in but Fonte clears easily. Scrappy start from both sides.

Worth noting, Mauricio Pochettino received a rather ambivalent reception from Saints' supporters as he made his way over to the dugout. One or two jeers, but nothing hostile at all. Anyway, back to the football.

And Tottenham get us started at St Mary's.

We are almost ready to get underway at St Mary's as the teams make their way out onto the pitch.

Both sides welcome key men back to their starting XIs this afternoon. For Southampton, Toby Alderweireld is back after recovering from a shoulder problem. The Belgium international looks like he may start in a midfield role ahead of the centre half pairing of Maya Yoshida and Jose Fonte.

Hugo Lloris meanwhile is back for Spurs to play his first game of the month. Harry Kane once again leads the line with the familiar trio of Nacer Chadli, Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela in support.

BREAKING: Hugo Lloris is fit again after three games out and returns to captain his side.

Tottenham news: Hugo Lloris has not played since the 4-3 win over Leicester City at the end of March and the Frenchman faces a late fitness test this afternoon.

Apart from Kyle Walker, who is out for the remainder of the season, Mauricio Pochettino has a full squad to choose from.

Mauricio Pochettino returns to Southampton for the first time this afternoon after leaving the club last summer. Luke Shaw, Calum Chambers, Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren were all part of that exodus too, but those names are now nothing but a mere footnote around St Mary's these days.

Ronald Koeman and his reassembled side are looking to go one better than Pochettino's Saints and qualify for Europe. They currently sit in seventh spot, a point behind sixth placed Spurs.

A win for either side will, for a few hours at least, also lift them above Liverpool into fifth place. Team news is expected shortly, we will have it with you as soon as it reaches us.
