A body has been found in a burning rubbish truck in Manchester city centre.

Firefighters and police were called to a refuse vehicle which was on fire outside the Apollo music venue on the A57 Hyde Road in Ardwick at around 6.30am on Monday. One lane of Hyde Road has now reopened.

The crews discovered a body inside the truck after putting out the flames.

Police are not ruling out foul play, according to reports by the Manchester Evening News.

The skip outside the Apollo is owned by waste management company Veolia Environmental Services.

A Veolia spokesperson just issued this statement, "We can confirm that at approximately 5am on Monday 15 September, a fire was reported in the rear of one of our commercial vehicles located in a car park on the A57 in Ardwick, Greater Manchester.

"Both the fire brigade and police attended the scene.

"We can confirm this matter is now subject to an ongoing police investigation and we cannot comment further."
