Tributes to Shereka have appeared on social networking sites and within a short time of her identity being released some 5,000 "likes" had appeared on a R.I.P. Shereka page on Facebook.

One tribute read:

"Rip beautiful, you are up there, God needed you to take care of the angels. but you didnt have to die this way, Rest in peace Beautiful Angel"

On Twitter Hackney Labour councillor Patrick Vernon spoke of his shock at discovering the news about someone he had met only a few days previously when she was part of a team from Urswick School that welcomed visiting dignitaries including the Jamaican High Commissioner, Aloun Ndombet-Assambaand.
