In a shocking case, a woman was arrested on Sunday, 3 December, near the Indian city of Mumbai after she confessed to killing three people several years ago, including her husband.

Savita Bharati, a 42-year-old brothel owner, allegedly murdered her husband 13 years ago and dumped his body in the domestic sewage tank of her house, according to the Hindustan Times newspaper.

Kiran Kabadi, Senior Inspector, Palghar police station, said, "Savita Bharati killed her husband Sahdev in 2004, when he caught her in a compromising position with her lover Kamlesh. The duo then stoned Sahdev to death and buried his body in a septic tank in the house. They later covered the tank with cement.

"We will send the skeleton for forensic analysis," Kabadi added.

The incident came to light when police raided Bharati's house to bust a prostitution ring. After rescuing four women from the sex racket, the police conducted a second raid at the house, only to discover the skeleton of her husband, according to reports.

Bharati had reportedly fabricated a story about the whereabouts of her husband to avoid suspicion over the years, telling her neighbours that Sahdev was an alcoholic and had left her.

The mother of two also told the police that she had killed one of her clients as she wanted to steal the Rs 100,000 (£1,160) that he was carrying with him.

"We are yet to find the body," Kabadi said. "The third murder was a case of human sacrifice." However, it is still not clear when these two murders took place.

"She will be produced before the Palghar court on Thursday," the official added.
