Barca bound?

Barcelona is planning to bring Chelsea defender David Luiz to the Camp Nou in the summer and are poised to make a £35m bid, according to a Daily Mail report.

Luiz, who joined Chelsea from Benfica for £21m over a year ago, has been a long-term target for the Spanish club and the Brazilian's style would fit well with Barcelona's policy of keeping a small, versatile first-team.

Barca boss Pep Guardiola is short of players at the centre of defence. With aging and injury-prone captain Carlos Puyol missing matches, the manager has been forced to use midfielder Javier Mascherano as a centre back on a regular basis and is now ready to make a big offer for Luiz.

Luiz is currently in fine form, after coming in for heavy criticism earlier in the season for some poor defensive performances. The 24-year-old has played a key role in Chelsea's recent revivial under Roberto Di Matteo.
