Authorities and local media confirmed that Detroit police discovered the bodies of three men in the basement of a house in Southwest Detroit after they responded to a missing person report. According to officials, the police entered the residence in the afternoon hours of 17 February after receiving information concerning a welfare check.

The grim discovery followed a report that one of the men who was expected to report for work did not arrive and could not be reached, prompting family members to notify the authorities.

Upon entering the home, officers found the three deceased men in the basement area. Detroit Police spokesman Sgt. Nicole Kirkwood described the scene as 'disturbing,' and prompted an urgent investigation by homicide detectives.

Officers secured the property as part of their ongoing Detroit triple homicide investigation and requested assistance from the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office to help determine the cause and time of death.

Investigation Underway

Homicide investigators are currently working to determine whether the deaths are linked to one incident or separate events, which includes talking to relatives, neighbours, and reviewing 911 calls or nearby surveillance videos.

Law enforcement sources reported that no arrests have been publicly announced at this time, and the cause of death for each individual is still being investigated while awaiting autopsy results.

Authorities emphasised that the case is ongoing and evolving, urging the public for information – particularly those who may have seen suspicious behaviour near the location in the days leading up to the discovery – to reach out to the Detroit Police Department's homicide division or crime stoppers.

Appeal for Public Information

Local authorities noted that although homicides are not uncommon in larger cities like Detroit, the discovery of three bodies in a domestic setting, especially hidden in a basement, is rare and demands thorough investigation.

Commander of the Major Crimes Unit Rebecca McKay said in a video posted by WXYZ-YV Detroit, 'We would appreciate it if anybody saw anything. If they have any information they can get to us, we would appreciate them giving us a call.'

'It's insane. Makes me keep an eye out, watching, you never know what's going on over here,' said neighbor Rayshawn Brown.

Investigators reiterated that the safety of the general public is paramount and highlighted the importance of community cooperation in solving complex cases such as this.

Autopsy, Forensic Processing Underway

The bodies of the three men were taken into custody by the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office as part of the standard protocol in multiple fatality cases.

Autopsies will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of death, with findings anticipated to guide decisions on whether charges will be pursued and what type they may be – including homicide by unknown means or evidence of foul play associated with assault or poisoning.

The forensics team at the scene collected evidence, including potential trace materials from the basement environment, clothing analysis, and any weapons or tools discovered in the vicinity.

Moreover, ballistic experts and crime scene technicians will document and analyse trace data as part of the comprehensive inquiry.
