In the midst of Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee celebrations this weekend, Prince Philip the Queen's husband is to spend another night in hospital under observation where he is being treated for a bladder infection. A Palace spokesperson has said 'his condition is steadily improving and he will continue to be monitored for the next few days'.

As the longest serving consort and oldest-serving spouse of a British monarch, the 90 year old Prince was sorely missed as the Queen took part in the final celebrations of the jubilee weekend.

Prince Philip accompanied the Queen and other senior members of the Royal family on the 1000 boat flotilla just before he was suddenly taken ill. As a former Naval Commander he can be seen doing a small jig to the well-known Royal Navy ditty.

The Prince had treatment for a blocked artery last year and he is seen her waving from a car as he leaves hospital

Despite the ambiguities of his position and no clear cut Royal role, the blunt-talking prince has brought an acerbic wit, a legendary knack of making tackles gaffes and unflagging energy to his role as consort, while helping to nurse the monarchy into the 20th century. So let's hope the Prince makes a full recovery very soon, and tactless is back by the side of the Queen very shortly.
