A new Instagram feed offering an eclectic look at China has been set up by award-winning Getty Images photojournalist Kevin Frayer and AFP photographer Fred Dufour. The Eyes On China project is a collaboration between local and foreign photojournalists and documentary photographers living and working in China. Frayer says the goal is to give viewers "one place to go to get a very broad look at this country".

Unfortunately, these images won't be seen by many people with China, where Instagram is only accessible by using a VPN or proxy to break through the firewall. To be seen inside China, the feed would have to be published on platforms acceptable to the authorities, such as Weibo, but there are fears that this may dilute the nature of the project and open it up to censorship.

IBTimesUK presents a selection of photos by some of the feed's regular contributors. Follow @eyesonchinaproject on Instagram to see the latest images.
