They were famous as high-society siblings Rachel and Jill Green in the hit 1990s show Friends, and now more than a decade later actresses Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon are set to reunite on TV again.
An as-yet untitled project will bring the two actresses together to explore the mad world of morning shows on television and the larger media scene of New York. Considering the star power attached with the upcoming show — it might even be the largest TV package so far — pitches are expected from top guns like HBO and Netflix, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In addition, House Of Cards writer Jay Carson is expected to script the Aniston-Witherspoon starrer that is based on an original idea and spearheaded by former HBO head of drama Michael Ellenberg.
As for the executive producers of the series, responsibilities will be shared by Steve Kloves (Academy Award nominee), Witherspoon, her production house partner Lauren Levy Neustadter and Aniston.
This marks 48-year-old Aniston's television comeback in a prominent role, after she entertained viewers as the feisty Rachel Green. In season 6 episode 13 – titled The One With Rachel's Sister – the NBC actress was joined by Witherspoon, who played her younger sister Jill.
One of the most memorable episodes ironically showed Rachel finally stepping into the shoes of a big sister to help Jill after she is cut off financially.
While Friends was an immense hit with viewers, it also earned Aniston several Emmy nominations — she even won one in the category of outstanding lead actress in a comedy series.
On the other hand, Witherspoon has been in the news of late because of her acclaimed HBO limited series Big Little Lies. Not only has the series earned her an Emmy nomination this year but it is also anticipated for a second season.
The show also stars big names like Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern and Shailene Woodley among others.
