American actress Courteney Cox has ignited speculation that she has married Snow Patrol's Johnny McDaid in a secret ceremony after the couple were seen wearing rings on their wedding fingers.

The pair, who have been dating since December 2013, sent the rumour mill into overdrive after they stepped out with their new jewellery during a romantic stroll in New York.

"She has never been happier. And even though it's her second marriage, she would like people important to be there," a source told the Sun.

Although little details have been revealed about their whirlwind romance, it surfaced this summer that they were introduced by singer and mutual friend Ed Sheeran.

The insider continued: "Not only is Ed great mates with Johnny, he is a close friend of Courteney's. Ed said yes [when asked to be best man] immediately when asked. Johnny's other best pal, singer Foy Vance, is also an usher. It's between him and Ed for best man - they'll probably share it."

Cox, best known for her role as Monica Geller on the NBC sitcom Friends, announced that the pair were engaged back in June.

Talking to Twitter she shared a selfie of the two with the caption: "I'm engaged to him!"

She later revealed during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel that McDraid asked her 10-year-old daughter Coco permission before popping the question.

"Johnny first asked Coco. He said, "I'd like to marry your mom," and gave her a little diamond ring. She said, 'Great, I'm going to camp tomorrow. Let's do it right now.'"

If the reports are to believed, this will be Cox's second trip down the aisle. She was previously married to David Arquette, with whom she has Coco.
