Rocket sirens are being heard in Tel-Aviv as Israeli ground offensive in Gaza continues Reuters

Reports have emerged of rocket sirens being heard in Tel-Aviv.

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) Twitter account posted the following on Tuesday morning:

News of the rocket sirens comes as Palestinian and Israeli death tolls continue to rise.

Israel launched a ground offensive in the Gaza Strip last week after days of shelling. The invasion constitutes an expansion of the existing Operation Protective Edge, launched on 8 July to restore calm in southern Israel, after Gaza launched more than 150 rockets into the country.

At least 560 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed since the launch of the operation.

The Israeli death toll stands at 29, including two civilians. According to Israeli media, one IDF soldier has been reported missing and is presumed dead.
