Jim Carrey stood at a podium in Paris on 26 February, accepted an honorary prize from the French film industry, and then did something he had avoided for years. He told a room full of strangers about the woman in his life.

'Thank you to my sublime companion, Min Ah. I love you, Min Ah,' the 64-year-old said during his acceptance speech at the 51st Cesar Awards, held at L'Olympia. The entire address was delivered in French. It was the first time Carrey had publicly acknowledged his partner, despite the pair reportedly being together for roughly four years, Variety reported.

Carrey received the Honorary Cesar, a prize traditionally reserved for a major international star. Julia Roberts won it last year. Director Michel Gondry, who helmed Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind more than two decades ago, introduced him on stage.

During the speech, Carrey revealed that his ancestor Marc-François Carré was born in the port city of Saint-Malo roughly 300 years ago before emigrating to Canada. 'Tonight, with this magnificent honour, this square has come full circle,' he said, playing on the French word 'carré', meaning square. He also thanked his daughter Jane, his grandson Jackson, and his late father Percy Joseph Carrey, whom he called 'the funniest man I have ever known'.

Very little is publicly known about Min Ah. She has also been referred to as Minzi and Mina by various outlets and is reported to be a Los Angeles-based actress and artist, though personal details remain scarce.

The pair were first photographed in February 2022, leaving a charity comedy show hosted by Judd Apatow at Largo at the Coronet in Los Angeles. She was identified only as Minzi at the time, Just Jared reported. Neither said a word about it, and they were not seen together again for years.

That changed in Paris. Min Ah sat in the audience alongside Jane Erin Carrey, 38, and Carrey's teenage grandson Jackson. She wore a strapless black gown. The couple was photographed holding hands after the ceremony, Hello Magazine reported.

Two Marriages and Several High-Profile Relationships

Carrey married Melissa Womer in 1987 after meeting her at a comedy store. They had a daughter, Jane, that same year. The marriage ended in 1995.

He then married his Dumb and Dumber co-star, Lauren Holly, on 23 September 1996. It lasted less than a year. After that came Renée Zellweger, whom he dated from 1999 to 2000 after they met on the set of Me, Myself & Irene.

From December 2005, Carrey was with Jenny McCarthy for five years. They announced their split on Twitter in April 2010. He later dated makeup artist Cathriona White during the 2010s. White died in September 2015 at the age of 30. His last known relationship before Min Ah was a brief romance with She-Hulk actress Ginger Gonzaga, E! Online reported.

Carrey's Stance on Marriage and His Quiet Years

Carrey has been open about his reluctance to marry again. 'I just don't see it as necessary,' he said during a 2014 appearance on The Howard Stern Show. 'I can't make hard, fast rules about the future. But I wouldn't voluntarily go that way.' It does not appear that he and Min Ah have married.

The Paris appearance was a rare step back into public life for Carrey, who has largely stepped away from Hollywood since the early 2020s to focus on painting. He teared up as Gondry took the stage, the Washington Times noted.

He wrapped up by joking about his language skills. 'So, how was my French? Almost mediocre, right? Forgive me. My tongue is tired,' he told the crowd. The room gave him a standing ovation.

Neither Carrey nor Min Ah has commented further since the ceremony.
