Judge William Adams, the man who had a shocking video uploaded of him beating his disabled 16-year-old daughter, Hillary with a leather belt, will be the subject of a police investigation.

Police from Aransas, Texas launched the probe on Wednesday Nov 2, after the county became aware of the video which saw the respected judge savagely beating his daughter.

It was uploaded 7 years after it happened as revenge for years of verbal and physical abuse. It has been viewed on YouTube a million times and the world has been shocked by its brutality.

The 51-year-old claims to have done nothing wrong saying that the video "looks worse than it is," and doubts any punishment will come of it.

"In my mind, I haven't done anything wrong other than discipline my child after she was caught stealing," Adams said. "And I did lose my temper, but I've since apologized."

Hillary says that her father became angry after she was caught illegally downloading music on her computer that was supposed to be solely used for homework.

"He's supposed to be a judge who exercises fit judgment," she said.

Child protection agencies in the U.S. are battling for his arrest; however the line between what is considered child abuse and what is simply discipline in Texas is particularly fine. Teachers are legally allowed to 'spank' students for bad behaviour.

Jim hopper, a child abuse expert at Harvard Medical School considers Adams' actions to be assault.

"This is an act of brutal violence," he said.

"To beat someone into submission is not discipline. To beat a child into submission makes it harder for that child to take in rules and the values that the parent believes they are imposing on the child."
