Overview

Defending champions Mumbai Indians suffered a defeat at the hands of newcomers Rising Pune Supergiants. Kolkata Knight Riders went on to seal a victory over Delhi Daredevils in their first match.

Rohit Sharma's side had a disappointing start against the Supergiants. After losing quick wickets at the top, Harbhajan Singh's unbeaten 45 helped them post a decent total of 121. The Pune-based franchise sealed a nine-wicket victory with over 30 balls to spare.

Kolkata Knight Riders also registered a nine-wicket victory with 35 balls to spare. Andre Russell and Brad Hogg picked up six wickets between them as the Dare Devils were bowled out for 98.

Both teams have had a mixed start to the ninth edition of the domestic Twenty20 tournament in India. Gautam Gambhir will be hoping to continue his side's winning streak when they face the Mumbai Indians.
