Billionaire Bought 8 Homes in Gated Florida Community for His Children's Tutors and Staff, Some Even Have Pools
Oracle billionaire snaps up nearly 3% of a Boynton Beach community

Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison quietly bought eight houses in an ordinary gated community in Boynton Beach, Florida, for the people who run his household, including his children's tutors and other staff. Several of the homes even have their own pools.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the houses sit about 30 minutes from the billionaire's main Florida estate, and together they cost him close to $10M (£7.5M). Most were bought in 2023, through limited liability companies, and several never reached the open market.
The purchases drew notice in the community for months before their purpose became clear. Forbes first flagged the unexplained cluster in February 2026, tracing the deals through county records to entities linked to Ellison's business address; it counted nine nearly adjacent homes bought between 2023 and mid-2025, at around $1M each, and said his plans for them were unclear. The Journal later reported that some of the homes were meant for his children's tutors and others for household employees.
Buying property in bulk is an Ellison habit. His roughly $2.9B (£2.2B) portfolio already spanned several states, Forbes has reported. It included homes in Woodside and five adjacent parcels in Redwood City in California, four houses in Newport, Rhode Island, and about a dozen along Malibu's Carbon Beach. He also owns almost all of the Hawaiian island of Lanai, bought in 2012.
Inside the Boynton Beach Gated Community
Palm Meadows Estates is no billionaires' enclave. It is a family neighbourhood of 288 houses in the horse country of West Boynton Beach, built by Lennar beside the Palm Meadows Thoroughbred Training Center, the Stronach Group's roughly 300-acre facility just off Florida's Turnpike. It has a clubhouse, tennis courts, and a resort-style pool, the homeowners association says. The homes Ellison bought went for around $1M each, modest ground for a man who has spent more than $100M on single properties.
A million-dollar house bought through a limited liability company draws less notice than an oceanfront mansion. Even so, owning eight of the 288 homes gives one buyer nearly 3% of the community. Ellison is not alone in treating South Florida as a private base. Ken Griffin has spent more than $450M assembling a Palm Beach compound, and Jeff Bezos has bought three properties on Miami's Indian Creek.
Ellison's Wider Florida Spending
The staff homes are a rounding error against Ellison's wider Florida spending. His first major Palm Beach County purchase was an $80M North Palm Beach oceanfront mansion in 2021. A year later he paid $173M for his Manalapan estate, known as Gemini, a state record at the time, and in 2024 he added the Eau Palm Beach Resort and Spa for about $277M. In all, he has put more than $450M into the barrier-island town of Manalapan, adding a $34.4M vacant lot beside the estate in 2026.
Ellison made Manalapan his primary residence in 2023. By shifting his domicile from Hawaii before selling big blocks of Oracle stock and taking dividends, he saved an estimated $1B (£750M) in Hawaii state taxes, according to Forbes. He also sold his San Francisco mansion in December 2025 for $45M, part of a shift away from California.
A Billionaire's Household Run Like a Business
Housing tutors, aides, and other staff close to his main residence keeps a large household near and private, inside one set of manned security gates rather than scattered across South Florida. It is an arrangement common among the ultra-wealthy, whose households at this scale employ private security, childcare, and estate teams.
Neither Ellison nor Oracle has publicly commented on the Palm Meadows purchases, and it is unclear how many of the homes are now occupied.
Ellison, the Oracle co-founder, was worth an estimated $196B (£147B) on Forbes' count in mid-September 2026, ranking seventh in the world, and briefly stood as the world's richest person in September 2025 after a surge in the company's shares.
