Lioness Season 4 Update: Zoe Saldaña Admits She Does Not Know if Paramount Series Returns

Zoe Saldaña says she does not know whether Lioness will return for Season 4, as Paramount+ has yet to announce another season of Taylor Sheridan's spy thriller.

The 48-year-old star and executive producer discussed the show's future in an interview published by People on 27 September, saying she did not know where Sheridan might take CIA operative Joe McNamara next.

Season 3 concluded its eight-episode run on 20 September. Paramount+ said on 23 September that Lioness had not yet received an official Season 4 renewal, meaning Saldaña's comments should not be read as confirmation that the programme is ending.

'I don't know if we're able to go to a season 4,' Saldaña said. 'I don't know where he would take it.' Saldaña stars as Joe and is also an executive producer on the series.

Her remarks reflect uncertainty about the character's next chapter rather than any announced decision by Paramount+ about the show's future.

Lioness Season 4 Questions Follow Joe's Season 3 Story

Season 3 placed Joe in a markedly different position. Instead of primarily directing dangerous operations, she became a target herself and had to escape the kind of threat she would normally help manage from the outside.

Saldaña said that reversal shaped Joe's role during the season. 'Joe was the victim,' she said. 'She was the one that was extracted, and she was the one that had to get herself out.'

She went further by describing Joe herself as the season's Lioness. 'In a way, I almost feel like Joe was the Lioness in season 3,' Saldaña said. 'She was the target, and she was also the Lioness.'

The Season 3 finale also left storylines open. Paramount+'s own recap identified Aaliyah Amrohi as the person behind the effort to abduct Joe, while Joe was left dealing with the fallout in her family life.

Those developments leave material to explore if the series returns, although Paramount+ has not announced a fourth season.

Nicole Kidman, who plays Kaitlyn Meade and also serves as an executive producer, has publicly expressed interest in continuing the series. After the finale, Kidman encouraged viewers who wanted another season to make their support known.

Saldaña has also spoken about how demanding Joe's Season 3 storyline was. She said she discussed the character's direction with Sheridan before production began. 'It was very demanding, I'm not gonna lie,' she said. 'I didn't even know if I was gonna be able to pull it off.'

At the Season 3 premiere in July, Saldaña also praised Sheridan's approach to writing female characters. 'I have a great deal of respect for men that really know how to write women,' she said.

Michael Kelly Joins Landman as Lioness Future Remains Open

Another member of the Lioness ensemble is expanding his role within Sheridan's television projects. Michael Kelly, who plays CIA Deputy Director Byron Westfield, has joined Landman Season 3 as a series regular.

Paramount+ says Kelly will play William Crockett, the head of a major oil management company. There is no confirmed indication that Kelly's role on Landman would prevent him from returning to Lioness. Saldaña nevertheless joked about seeing her co-star take on more work elsewhere in Sheridan's television slate.

'Michael can't be going there and doing more work,' she said. Saldaña made clear that she would like Kelly to return if Lioness receives another season.

'If we do come back for season 4, we have him first,' she said. 'I don't see anybody else playing Byron.' Her comments express a preference for keeping Kelly in the ensemble rather than confirming that he has signed on for a fourth season.

For now, the clearest Lioness Season 4 update is that Paramount+ has not announced an official renewal. Saldaña has not said the series is cancelled, and the streamer has not announced that it has ended. All three seasons of Lioness are currently available to stream on Paramount+.
