Real Madrid are keen on signing a top striker and reports in Spain claim that Liverpool star Luis Suarez and Manchester United's Wayne Rooney are their main targets for the summer.

After signing former Tottenham forward Gareth Bale for a world record fee in the summer transfer window and his former teammate Luka Modric the previous year, the Spanish giant have set their sights on securing another Premier League star to strengthen their attack.

The Telegraph reported on Wednesday that Real Madrid are preparing a £25 million bid to sign Rooney while Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claim that Luis Suarez remains a high priority for Los Blancos as they aim to add to their already potent attack.

Mundo Deportivo reports that Juan Mata's imminent move to Old Trafford may open the door for Rooney's exit to Madrid. The former Everton striker's future remain up in the air as he has not signed a new contract with Manchester United yet and Real are trying to take advantage of the Red Devils' uninspiring season to convince Rooney to move to La Liga and reunite the English star with Cristiano Ronaldo.

Los Blancos are also monitoring Suarez after they approached the player last summer as an option had they not signed Bale. With Suarez recently committing to a four and a half year contract at Liverpool, Mundo Deportivo claim that Real Madrid are considering offering Isco as part of the deal to convince the Reds to sell the Uruguayan international.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti believes that the centre forward role is currently Real's biggest weakness as Karim Benzema has struggled with consistency and youngster Alvaro Morata has failed to impressed him during the first part of the season. The Italian coach wants a top player to partner Ronaldo and Bale to forge an invincible attack and he believes the ideal candidate lies in the Premier League.
