Two London Underground Mice Caught 'Boxing' at Oxford Circus in Hilarious Viral Tube Video

Two London Underground mice have become unlikely viral stars after a commuter filmed them appearing to 'box' each other at Oxford Circus station. The brief encounter was recorded by commuter Sonia Mansfield on Saturday, 29 August 2026, as she waited for a train with her friend, Aaron.

The video shows the mice chasing each other across the platform, rearing up on their hind legs and wrestling near the yellow safety line before disappearing from view. The unusual Tube spectacle quickly spread online and caught the attention of several international news publications.

London Underground Mice's Unexpected Show

Mansfield filmed the two mice as they appeared to engage in a fast-paced bout of play-fighting or sparring. At several points, they stood on their hind legs and appeared to paw or slap at one another before scurrying across the platform.

Passengers watching the scene reportedly laughed as the mice continued their brief confrontation.

Mansfield later told Storyful that the encounter 'warmed our hearts' and said she and Aaron 'couldn't stop laughing' at what she described as one of the funniest things they had seen while waiting for a train.

Why London Underground Mice Fight or Play-Fight

The behaviour seen in the Oxford Circus video is not necessarily unusual for mice. They can chase, wrestle and compete with one another over food, territory or space, while some encounters may also involve social play.

The London Underground provides an established habitat for mice, which can forage for food scraps left by passengers and survive in the tunnels despite the constant noise and movement of trains.

Estimates have previously suggested that hundreds of thousands of mice live across the Underground network, making sightings a familiar part of life on the Tube.

The video prompted plenty of jokes from viewers, with some comparing the encounter to a tiny boxing match between the two mice. Comments included references to 'mind the gap' and jokes about British mice having dry humour or settling a sibling dispute.
