Madonna's Bathroom Scene Reveals Unexpected Face

Madonna opened the 27 September ceremony at Los Angeles' Peacock Theater alongside Sabrina Carpenter, performing their collaboration 'Bring Your Love' before shifting into a theatrical club setting.

The stage then transformed into a mock public bathroom, complete with stalls and urinals, recreating imagery from her 'Danceteria' music video. Charli XCX emerged from a stall to join Madonna for 'Danceteria Afterhours', their recently released remix.

During the performance, Madonna approached a row of four people standing at the urinals and playfully tapped one of them on the backside. When the man turned around, he was revealed to be Tony Ward, her former boyfriend and the model who appeared in her 1990 'Justify My Love' video. The pair briefly interacted before Madonna continued her performance.

Ward's appearance was one of several celebrity cameos woven into the elaborate production, which also featured Debi Mazar, Julia Garner, Seth Rogen, singer Sombr and producer Andrew Watt. However, his presence carried a particular historical connection to MTV itself.

Why MTV Banned 'Justify My Love'

Released in November 1990, 'Justify My Love' featured Madonna and Ward in an intimate black-and-white video set in a Paris hotel. The production explored sexual fantasy and included scenes involving nudity, same-sex intimacy and bondage imagery.

MTV declined to broadcast the video because of its sexually suggestive content, despite the network's longstanding relationship with Madonna. The decision sparked a public debate over artistic expression and censorship.

Madonna subsequently defended the video during an appearance on ABC's 'Nightline' in December 1990, where the uncensored version was broadcast. Her record label also released the video commercially, turning the controversy into a major promotional moment. The song later reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 1991.
