Manchester United have targeted Manchester City defender Frederic Veseli, according to reports, with the 19 year old firmly in Sir Alex Ferguson's sights to help give the side more depth as they push their cross-town rivals for top spot in the Premier League table.

Veseli is yet to make an appearance for the City first squad, but his performances for the reserves have given Ferguson a lot to consider as he looks to build on giving the side long term success with youngsters full of potential.

In the last transfer window, two out of the three players Ferguson signed were under 21, and the manager is well known for trusting his younger players to step up over times and show they are worthy of a United shirt in the long run.

Ferguson has insisted on many occasions this month that he isn't interested in bringing any new players into the United squad, but should a youngster become available, the manager might be tempted. And now Sky Sports claims that Veseli is doing just that, and the Scot is considering a last minute swoop.

Ferguson is likely to have a plan for Veseli to either be sent out on loan, or to be an immediate part of his first team plans. The United manager made it clear at the start of December that he wanted to send as many youngsters out on loan as possible, because he felt that the reserves system was unable to give them the fitness they required to be competitive in the Premier League.

Veseli made the move to City from Lausanne in 2008, and has played for the Switzerland Under 19 national side. He is said to be a natural talent, but has been unable to break into the starting line up so far.
