NFL Legend Claims College Football Star's Bizarre Family Tradition of Eating Dinner Completely 'Naked'

A bizarre comment about BYU quarterback Bear Bachmeier's family life has gone viral after former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III made an unexpected claim during a Fox Sports broadcast.

The incident occurred during BYU's 28-17 victory over Arizona on 12 September, when cameras showed Bachmeier's mother, April, in the stands at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah.

Griffin, the former Washington quarterback and 2012 Heisman Trophy winner, then brought up an alleged conversation he had previously had with Bachmeier.

'[Bear] he told us that at the dinners, you know, sometimes they just, they just take the clothes off and they walk around naked,' Griffin said.

He then turned to play-by-play announcer Connor Onion and asked: 'You naked at your dinners with the family?'

Onion appeared caught off guard by the question.

'Do I have to answer that?' he replied.

Griffin responded: 'You don't have to answer that because I don't think anybody listening right now really kind of does that.'

The exchange has since circulated widely online, prompting plenty of reactions from college football fans.

Viral Moment Raises More Questions Than Answers

Despite Griffin's comments, there has been no independent confirmation that the Bachmeier family regularly eats dinner without clothes. Neither Bachmeier nor his family has publicly addressed the claim as of 24 September.

Griffin has also not provided further details about the alleged conversation or explained the context in which it came up.

Nevertheless, re-posted clips of the conversation gained renewed attention on social media more than a week after the game, with users questioning how such a personal subject became part of a college football broadcast.

One social media user wrote: 'What a random note to drop in the game lol. I also wonder how that even came up in the media meetings in the lead-up to the game lol.'

Another joked: 'That will keep folks from trying to sneak any biscuits away from the table.'

A third user offered a more casual interpretation, writing: 'What family with boys hasn't had them running around shirtless and at the dinner table?'

The comments have remained focused largely on Griffin's unusual anecdote rather than any verified information about the Bachmeier household.

Bachmeier's Performance Remains the Bigger Story

Away from the unusual broadcast exchange, Bachmeier had another impressive outing for BYU. The sophomore quarterback completed 16 of 26 passes for 217 yards and three touchdowns without throwing an interception. He also rushed for 37 yards and scored another touchdown, accounting for all four of BYU's touchdowns against Arizona.

The performance helped BYU secure a 28-17 win and opened Big 12 play with a victory. Bachmeier was subsequently named the conference's Offensive Player of the Week.

BYU's official roster lists Bachmeier as a 6-foot-2 (187.7 cm), 230-pound (104.3 kg) sophomore from Murrieta, California. He transferred from Stanford before joining the Cougars and enjoyed a standout freshman campaign in 2025, throwing for 3,033 yards and 15 touchdowns while adding 527 rushing yards and 11 scores.

For now, the alleged family tradition remains just an unverified claim made during a live broadcast. Bachmeier and his family have yet to publicly confirm or deny Griffin's account.
