Manchester United have reportedly launched a massive £55m bid to land Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria.

According to the Express, United have offered the Argentine a lucrative five-year contract, with Di Maria set to earn around £120,000-a-week.

Louis van Gaal has been chasing the Argentine star throughout the summer transfer window, but reports suggested that Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain had beaten the Red Devils to Di Maria's signature.

The 26-year-old winger is said to be keen on a move away from the club following the summer arrivals of James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos as he is aware of the possibility of spending a lot of time on the bench, and he is open to the idea of moving to either France or England.

The Argentine international has been a key part of the Real squad since his arrival from Benfica and the 2013-14 season saw Di Maria become the main playmaker of the team, after he scored four goals and provided an astounding 17 assists in 34 league games.

United are now said to be front-runners to land the Real winger after the PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi confirmed that the French champions are out of the race for Di Maria as he proved to be too expensive.

"We discussed Angel Di Maria with Real Madrid. He was very expensive and we have stopped discussions," Al-Khelaifi said, as quoted in the Express.

However, if reports are to be believed, the Ligue 1 club might still have a say in the transfer as they are now prepared to offload a few of their players to raise the cash required to reopen negotiations with the Spanish capital club with regards to the winger.
