Manchester United could do away with two of their established backline with rumours emerging of Sir Alex Ferguson's plan for a summer overhaul.

Rio Ferdinand and captain Nemanja Vidic have been instrumental in United's recent dominance in domestic football, but reports have emerged, surprisingly, stating they could be sold during the summer transfer window at the end of the season.

According to the Sunday Times, Ferguson thinks the two are past their best as both are in their 30s. If rumours are true, it won't take much to find takers for the 30-year-old Vidic, who was linked to Real Madrid, Juventus and Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala.

Ferdinand, 33, could make a return to his former club West Ham while another option for him is to make a high-profile move across the globe to Major League Soccer, in the United States.

With Phil Jones and Chris Smalling in their ranks set to replace them, Ferguson has already starting rebuilding his side for yet another time.
