Manchester United are considering an approach to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan at the end of the season, according to Tutto Mercato Web.

The 22-year-old German international of Turkish descent has been impressive in Dortmund's midfield, scoring three goals and managing two assists in the league this season. Gundogan also played an integral role in his side's 4-3 aggregate win over Real Madrid to reach the Champions League final at Wembley.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side clinched their 20th title earlier this month and the Premier League champions have already set their eyes on bringing Gundogan to Old Trafford in the summer. The report claims that the Red Devils are likely to place an offer in the coming weeks for the services of the Dortmund star.

Meanwhile, the German international had earlier expressed his desire to play abroad at some point in his career, with England and Spain on his radar.

"It is not reprehensible to answer such questions (of a future career in England or Spain) with 'yes'. Everyone has a childhood dream on what he would like to achieve one day and my dream always was to play in England or Spain," Gundogan said.

However, any move from United in the summer will not be an easy task as the ex-Nurnberg player also admitted that he will continue with his current employers beyond this season.

"I am 100% sure that I will still be with Dortmund next season. Rumours do not really affect me. I still have two more years on my contract with Dortmund and I know what I have at this incredible club. It is very likely that I will sign a new contract, although it obviously depends on how talks go," the midfielder added.

Should Ferguson sign Gundogan at the end of the season, it is likely to be a replacement for Anderson, who is set for an Old Trafford exit in the summer. The German international has already proven himself at the European stage and his addition to United's squad will strengthen their midfield.

United signed Shinji Kagawa from Dortmund last summer and have now set their eyes on bringing Gundogan and his club team mate Robert Lewandowski to Old Trafford at the end of the season.
