Christian Eriksen is not the subject of a bid from Manchester United, according to the playmaker's agent, with interest continuing to surround the 19 year old as the January transfer window enters the last week.

Eriksen has starred for the Ajax senior side, and at his young age, the midfielder is highly coveted by numerous clubs across Europe.

Manchester United have long been linked with the starlet, with assistant coach Rene Meulensteen claiming that while the side are yet to make a move, they are keeping an eye on his progress.

"This is a player that is on our radar," United assistant coach Rene Meulensteen said in December, as reported by the Daily Mail.

"But that is to be expected. If people weren't looking, no-one would ever have an opinion on these players.

"It is true that a player like Eriksen would fit our transfer policy.

"He is being strongly linked with us, but to suggest that we are about to make a move is not true."

And now Eriksen's agent, Martin Shoots, has backed up Meulentseen's claims, admitting that United are yet to show any concrete interest, though he has hinted that a number of clubs are interested in the Denmark international.

"I can say nothing about [Manchester United], but there is always great interest in Christian and with the market now open, the interest is now enormous," he said, as reported by Calciomercato.it.

"Eriksen has been followed by many teams for several years, but we don't want to discuss speculation.

"Christian should focus on football."

After United lost Paul Scholes at the end of last season, and then Darren Fletcher last month, the side have struggled in the midfield department, with pundits claiming that in order to beat Manchester City, the club will need to make a big signing this winter at the earliest.

But Sir Alex Ferguson has insisted that his current squad have what it takes to win the title, and while the United manager has acknowledged that he's aware of his critics, he believes that the side have the strength and depth to prove them wrong.
