Two weeks after the death of rising emo rapper Lil Peep, police are investigating whether a fan supplied him with drugs after a series of disturbing text messages came to light.

The 21-year-old rapper was found dead on his tour bus on 15 November ahead of a scheduled concert in Tucson, Arizona.

TMZ reported that Tucson Police Department have turned their attention to a woman named Mariah Bons who was supposedly on the tour bus with Lil Peep hours before he passed.

One of the alleged texts sent by Bons reads: "GBC [Lil Peep] high af because of me and my friend lol."

"He passed the f*ck out my brother called and I tried to get him to say hi to my brother but he wouldn't wake up," reads another message.

Lil Peep's last tweet before his death was about Bons' brother. The tweet posted at 3.01pm on November 15 reads: "Free my biggest fan Nick Bons I love u."

Sergeant Pete Dugan from the Tucson, Arizona Police Department spoke to Rolling Stone saying: "It appeared to have been an overdose from evidence found near his body – most likely from Xanax or a combination of different drugs.

The police officer added that there were "no signs of trauma or foul play to his body".

Lil Peep, whose real name was Gustav Ahr, never tried to conceal his use of drugs for alleviating chronic depression and anxiety. He has also admitted that he had constant suicidal thoughts.

Previously, he had even posted videos and images of himself dropping Xanax tablets into his mouth on his social media channels.

In a 2016 interview with Pitchfork, the rapper had said: "I suffer from depression and some days I wake up and I'm like, Fuck, I wish I didn't wake up."

He continued: "Some days I'll be very down and out, but you won't be able to tell, really, because I don't express that side of myself on social media. That's the side of myself that I express through music. That's my channel for letting all that shit out."

When asked if he was receiving medication for drugs he said: "I'm not. Everyone always begged me to, but I don't want to do it. I just like smoking weed and whatever other drug comes my way."

"I don't like to pay for it [drugs]. I just like to get it for free," he added.

Fans of the rapper have now started an online petition to get Bons arrested. The petition titled "Phoenix Police Department: Get Mariah Bons arrested for the wrongful death of Gustav Ahr" has received almost 30,000 signatures so far.

Although his career was short-lived, Lil Peep had built a loyal fanbase. He had gained millions of plays on streaming site SoundCloud.

British emo rapper Bexey Swan made a Snapchat video of Peep while he had passed out. Fans had later criticised Swan for filming his friend and not helping him instead.

On 21 November Swan released a song on Soundcloud dedicated to Lil Peep and said that he had no idea the rapper was dying at the time.

Stars like Diplo, Travis Barker, Pete Wentz and Lil Peep's ex-girlfriend Bella Thorne have come forward to pay tribute to Lil' Peep.
