Mariah Carey's reality TV series Mariah's World premieres on Sunday (4 December) at 9pm EST on the E! Network. Episode 1 is titled, For Love Of The Tour, where the singer will be seen planning her wedding with James Packer amid the launch of her world tour.
In a promo released by E! for Sunday's premiere, the We Belong Together songstress opened up about her humble beginning in the music industry while sailing across the Italian seas in a yacht with her nephew Shawn.
Carey said in the promo, "I think me and Shawn have a great relationship because we both understand what it's like to literally come from nothing. We did not grow up this way, people have to understand this." Shawn chipped in and joked, "This is not normal back in the day."
The 46-year-old singer then shared her journey and said, "I've always had this love affair with music, ever since I can remember. When I was like four years old, my mother encouraged me to sing. I started doing demos when I was like 12 years old, I was a backup singer. I moved to Manhattan alone as a teenage girl. It was an exciting time for me, even though I had nothing."
"I lived like on a mattress on the floor. I was writing my songs and being a horrible waitress. My demo tape ended up at Sony and they signed it away," she added.
