Besiktas are not interested in signing Arsenal forward Marouane Chamakh, manager Samet Aybaba insists.

Chamakh enjoyed an indifferent season last term, scoring just one Premier League goal as his appearances became infrequent in the wake of Robin van Persie's impressive form.

The Moroccan was linked with a move to Fiorentina earlier this summer, which was eventually refuted, and 28 year old appears unable to get a break with Besiktas the latest to reject a move for his services.

Marouane Chamakh
Chamakh made just seven starts last season.

"We needed a defender like Escude and I think our defence will be stronger with him," Avbaba said. "We're not attempting to sign Marouane Chamakh."

Van Persie's 30-goal haul last season saw Chamakh's opportunities at Arsenal limited last season, and with Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud having joined from FC Cologne and Montpellier respectively, appearances are unlikely to increase next season.

Chamakh made seven starts in all competitions last season, two of which came in the League Cup, where Arsenal reached the quarter final before losing to Manchester City.

Previous talk of Chamakh moving to Serie A was rejected earlier this month by Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade, who claimed his wages made the transfer impossible.

"Have we made an offer for Chamakh? We have not made one because he earns three million euros (per season)," he claimed.

Meanwhile, Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is reported to be seething as the club fail to conclude a deal for Arsenal captain Robin van Persie.

Van Persie has been heavily linked with a move to The Etihad Stadium, however a deal is yet to be struck, with both Juventus and Manchester United looking to swoop.

Despite already having Carlos Tevez, Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli on the books, while Emmanuel Adebayor is yet to seal a move away from the club, Van Persie would enhance the club's attempts to retain the Premier League title.
