Keanu Reeves
Keanu Reeves has agreed to star in US crime-drama Rain.

Matrix star Keanu Reeves will soon be seen in a new action drama series on TV. The series, called Rain, will be based on a series of novels by author Barry Eisler.

Rain will centre on John Rain (Reeves), a half-Japanese, half-American assassin, who specializes in making his murders appear to be accidents or death by natural causes.

Reeves is said to have Asian origins in his background, which could have been the inspiration for some of his 2013 films, including 47 Ronin and his directorial debut Man of Tai Chi, reports Enstars.

"As a huge fan of Barry's work, I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to bring this iconic character and incredible world to life," Reeves told Deadline. "I'm looking forward to partnering with Slingshot on my new series."

Early days

Slingshot Global Media is a Los Angeles-based company launched in February by former FremantleMedia boss David Ellender – who seems thankful to have Reeves on-board for the new show.

"We are extremely excited to be working on a beloved property with such a talented and hard-working actor as Keanu," declared Ellender. "This series will be the launch pad for the company and highlight our talent focused, quality-based approached within the ever-changing and expanding television space."

Since the complete cast and crew of the series is yet to be finalised, it's going to be a while before production starts. No official release date for the show has been announced.
