Lewis Holtby
Lewis Holtby's agent says he is looking at exit options from Tottenham this month, with a return to Schalke on the cards.

Lewis Holtby's agent has admitted that a return to the Bundesliga is an option for the Tottenham midfielder as he looks at exit options this month.

Holtby made the move to Spurs this time last year and was touted for big things at the north London club, having left Schalke for a small fee six months before his contract expired.

But the Germany international is now looking likely to leave the club after featuring just 12 times in the league this season. With Tottenham bringing in four midfielders in last summer it was going to be an uphill battle for Holtby to maintain a starting berth and his agent has confirmed that a move in January is very much on the cards.

"Lewis is desperate to play, which is why we are looking intensively for solutions," Noack told the Bild newspaper.

A return to Schalke is one of the options that has reportedly been offered to Holtby and his agent was very positive of the idea, saying: "Schalke is an interesting option."

The comments seal a massive turnaround for Holtby, who made the move to Tottenham last January after keen interest from Arsenal.

With the World Cup coming up in under six months the 23 year old will be keen to get more game time under his belt in order to catch the eye of Germany head coach Joachim Low.

Schalke are currently seventh in the Bundesliga after a poor start to the season saw them slip out of the running for a Champions League place. The club have recovered somewhat and are now four points off the top four and still harbour desires of bringing Holtby back to the Vetlins Arena 12 months after he left.

Should he return to the club who have hopes of competing in Europe's premier competition next season and getting back into the mix for the Bundesliga title, he will have a big chance to prove himself for international selection.
