Neon is surely in! The Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week 2013 ended on 12 September with a plethora of neon-coloured creations.

Models presented the creations from the Ralph Lauren Spring/Summer 2014 collection in tints and shades of bright and fluorescent neon colours ranging from traditional red, green and blue to less-seen neon orange, lime and yellow.

The collection by the American designer featured neon floor-length and feathered gowns, jackets, skirts, minis and more.

The other collection that rounded up the New York Fashion Week's spring-summer show was from Calvin Klein, which presented contrasting black and white creations from its Spring/Summer 2014 collection.

Klein's collection for women featured skirt and blouse dresses, ruffled and layered dresses, pantsuits and minis.

"Layers and layers and layers," Francisco Costa, designer and Calvin Klein's Women's Creative Director, said after his show, according to The New York Times. "It's Basquiat, Picasso and Madonna: all the things that influenced me when I first came to New York, layered together."

Marc Jacobs was the third and last designer who brought down the curtain over the annual spring/summer fashion week in New York. The Marc Jacobs show surprised spectators as it featured creations that looked more wintry rather than a spring or summer creation. Jacobs' collection included sweatshirts, jackets, jersey, and straight skirts – all in dark hues.

The New York Fashion Week began at Lincoln Center on 5 September and paraded a number of celebrity attendees including former footballer David Beckham, actress Nicole Kidman, rapper Kanye West, ace tennis player Maria Sharapova and singers Courtney Love and Alicia Keys, among others.
