North Korea has launched several missiles, thought to be short-range projectiles, into the Sea of Japan (East Sea). According to an official statement from Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), the missiles flew for 200kms before landing in the waters east of North Korea. The launch on 21 March morning comes just days after the launch of mid-range ballistic missiles on 18 March.

"Our military is keeping close tabs on the situation and standing by with a heightened defence posture," said the JCS.

Tensions on the Korean peninsula are rising over constant military activities and war of words. Only days ago, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un promised to conduct more missile tests and rocket launches.
