A man has died and another wounded during a shooting in Wyong in New South Wales Central Coast on Monday (3 July), police said.

Following reports of shots fired, emergency services were called just before 12.30pm local time (3:30am BST). The 22-year-old man who was shot was treated by paramedics at Warner Avenue but died at the scene.

He has been identified as Jesse Thompson, a father-of-two, who was well known in Wyong, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Another man, aged 28, who got injured in the shooting, was also treated for a gunshot wound on his hand before being taken to hospital.

The shooting occurred in front of a small fibro home, near the Wyong Olympic Pool.

One witness said that the car with the victims in it was parked in front of the house.

"Then they drove off and a ute (utility vehicle) started chasing them down the street and shot them just down the road," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted the witness who posted the incident online.

Police from Tuggerah Lakes Local Area Command have shut down the intersection of Ithome Street and Warner Ave as they scour the scene for evidence.

They have also set up a second crime scene about 600 metres away near Byron Street and Panonia Road.

"Officers attached to Tuggerah Lakes Local Area Command have established a crime scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident," NSW Police said in a statement.

A nearby resident, Lacey Williams, told the Sydney Morning Herald that she didn't hear any gunshots.
